My HRM wasn’t reading the signal from the strap properly again. I think it must be time to change the battery in the transmitter. I hope that’s all it is, at least.
The rain started about 5 minutes after my run began & ended about 15 minutes before the run did. I hadn’t run in three days, so I wasn’t sure what to expect from this run. It felt pretty good, but I feel a little achy now. I’m not particularly tired, but I’m not sure I’m up for the full 13.1 distance of Sunday’s race. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. At least it won’t be too warm: the forecast is calling for a low of 38 Saturday night with a high of 56 on Sunday, partly cloudy skies, winds NNE@7. Awesome running weather!

My HRM was giving really low readings the first part of the run, especially in the second loop, so no clue what my average heart rate actually was. Also, I spaced during the second loop and couldn’t swear to running the full length and not shorting it by a block (2 blocks total). I’m going to assume I shorted it, so instead of 1.56 miles, it was probably 1.42. Overall, this was a REALLY good run!

This run beat me into submission. I’d planned to do 12-13 miles. I made it approximately 9.5 before I surrendered. I was simply far too fatigued to go the distance. Had to walk a mile+ to get back home, and it was hard work. The 10K race on Saturday plus 2 hours of yard work Saturday afternoon plus erratic training plus reduced caloric intake (to compensate for the 8 days of travel and 3 pints on ice cream in Dallas) plus accumulated travel fatigue plus poor sleep all combined to make for one overly tired Jill. My hamstrings were really sore from the yard work. By the time I got home, my whole body was aching. Argh.

I hadn’t been for a run since Saturday, so I figured I’d not go try to do 8 miles or anything radical like that today. Instead, I did the route with the big-ass hill which kicked my butt on the way back (it’s steeper on that side). I ran up it and then was having so much trouble getting air in that I stopped bent over and sucked air like it was going out of style. For the first time ever on that route, I saw another runner … who happened to be coming up the hill while I was sucking air. Doh. She commented that it’s a pretty tough hill. Indeed. My legs felt okay on the way out, tired on the way back in. At the end, I really felt pretty wiped out. I guess erratic training, crap diet, and no hills at all (Florida) will do that to you.

The course is rolling, definitely harder than last weekend’s race. It was pretty warm and windy, too.
Because it was a small race and most of the speedy people weren’t there, I managed to place 1st in my age group (45-54). Cathy took 2nd in her group (35-44). She’ll be in my group this fall after her next birthday.

This was my first run in six days. Having been sick (not nearly as bad as in December, thankfully), I was a little uncertain at the outset whether going long today was a good move or not. Long Run Good run. Quads started feeling a bit fatigued at around 8.5 miles. Took in Gu about 15 minutes before starting, then at 40 & 80 minutes. Got caught by a train at 80 minutes, so that worked out well. Walked for about a minute and a half at 40 mins, which was about the same amount of time I was waiting on the train. Was really stiff and achey at the end and had very little extra oompf to pick up the pace the last block. The bottom of my right foot (hey, other side of the body for a change!) near where my toes join up was sore from maybe 5 or so miles onward.

Eddie played pit crew for me today. All in all the run was pretty good, especially considering I haven’t run since Saturday and that was just 2 miles on the treadmill and I ate too much junk in the couple hours before I ran so my gut wasn’t all that happy with me. The weather was really nice, although as soon as the sun got near the horizon I cooled off really quickly. My cool down walk was really a cool down since I was already on the cool side.
On the route map, instead of turning and heading toward the TransCan shortly before mile 10, I went straight. Distance is a complete estimate.

Surprisingly, today’s run turned out to be really, really good. I ran the entire thing at a leisurely 5.3 mph, which is 11:18, not 11:25, so my treadmill is off a little :-(. My initial plan was to run a mile, do 3.25 miles of a hill intervals pyramid [(1/4@3%/5%/7%/9%, 1/4@1%) and back down], and then run another 3/4. As it turned out, I was feeling pretty good, so I ran 2.75 miles instead of .75 at the end. Watched Spirit of the Marathon while I ran. Enjoyable documentary!

Sunday is generally my long run day. 6 miles isn’t long, but it sure seems like it on a treadmill. Besides, with my current level of training, it’ll suffice since it’s what I’ve been doing on Sundays. Will need to start adding a mile or two to it each Sunday to get ready for the race in Dallas on March 15th.

McCarty Road For this run, I wanted to cover about 5k without stopping but also without red-lining and then do some run/walk. After the 5k, I wanted my heart rate to recover to below 125 (halfway between my resting and max HR) before running again.
Happily enough, my ankle feels pretty good. I ran with the support again (as I’ve done all week). I think for the race I’ll leave it at home, though. It’s a little uncomfortable, and the race course is smooth.

McCarty Road Didn’t feel like it was going to be a good run at the start, but things improved dramatically. No pain in my left hip where it hurt on Saturday. Yet Another West Side Loop Was supposed to be an “easy” run, but I ended up just running and it was faster/harder than an “easy” run. Anyway, felt pretty good. Got some twinges in left hip/buttock around 2.5 miles in through the end. Mystery ailment. As usual left hip flexor sore after the run. Le Roy Long Run 53 degrees at start, clear. At the end of the this run, I really hurt. Hadn’t hurt so badly after a run since completing the White Rock Marathon in 2003. Aches & pains really kicked in around 11 miles. Was mostly ok until then. Lower back, hips, quads … just about everything from mid-back down. No blisters, thankfully. Shoes, maybe???
